Games of the Gates

Represents the most important event that takes place in Gualdo Tadino and recalls the ancient equestrian rides festivities. Preceded by the 1400/1500 costume parade, repeats the contention of the Palio di San Michele Arcangelo between the "Four Gates" of the city competing in a race with a cart pulled by a donkey, in archery and the sling and in the race on donkeys ridden sleeping. After the race, according to tradition, the Door that wins the Palio has the right to burn the "Bastola," the old "enemy" of Gualdo that set fire to the Castle of Rocchetta. After the award of the Palio, which each year is made by an important Italian painter, residents and tourists gather in the streets and squares of the city. During the three day event remain open "taverns", characteristic of the local center and meeting places and food tasting.
