Festival of Madonna of Monte Camera
First Sunday after Easter (Pieve di Compresseto)
The holiday has ancient origins. In fact we have news of offers for this religious event since 1647. The story goes that a terrible plague broken out and the healthy population of Pieve di Compresseto, the Tuesday after Easter, wents in procession to the Sanctuary of Monte Room (six miles through mountains and forests) to implore the grace of the Madonna. When they returned, they saw the lepers healed by now. Since then, every year, the population of the Pieve of Compresseto and surrounding area back on a pilgrimage on foot to the sanctuary. For the occasion the residents of Pieve decorate the village and they are prepared with great devotion. The pilgrimage begins at 7 am on the first Tuesday after Easter, we start from the church and arrive around 9 am at the Sanctuary. After the Holy Mass and a picnic lunch, at 10.30 am, it starts to come back to the Pieve of Compresseto around 13.
