Pieve of Compresseto
Ancient fortified town in the Roman church of S. Mary is preserved a series of frescoes, some of which the school of Matthew from Gualdo and an altarpiece of rare beauty. Its origin dates back to the early Middle Ages when, in a mighty castle and a beautiful church, develops "the Pieve": two rows of houses that, over time, have come to join the two existing buildings, creating a square that even today is the heart of life in the country.
From a splendid avenue of chestnut trees, about 150 meters long, you discover the Upper Tiber Valley, Gubbio, Monte Cucco and Monte Catria, Val di Chiascio.
After the medieval period, characterized by wars and endless battles, the life of this village takes place through the centuries, with a total commitment in 'agriculture, which represents the only source of work until the middle of this century, when' migration will take away the best forces.
Today, the nearby industries set up in recent decades, employing many people in this country, it retains, however, the characteristics of serenity and peace, making it popular destination for summer vacation.
